What Is Trading?
Trading means buying and selling financial assets like currencies, crypto, or commodities to earn profit from price changes. Here’s how it works:
Order : A request to buy or sell an asset
Trade : What happens when your order is executed
Lot : Trade size. 1 standard lot = 100,000 units
Pip : The smallest price move in Forex, usually 0.0001
Equity : Your account balance + current floating P&L
Margin : Funds “locked” to keep your trades open

RAW – Netted: Combines all positions in the same direction into a single net position.
Useful for institutional or strategy-based trading where position consolidation is preferred.RAW – Hedged: Allows opening multiple buy and sell positions on the same instrument.
Recommended for individual traders, as it provides more flexibility for short-term strategies and manual trading.
Orders, Trades, and Positions
Term | Definition
Order | A request to open a trade
Trade | An executed transaction (part or full)
Position | Your current open exposure in the market
⚠️ Important: A trade does not have to close on the same day.
Your position can stay open for several hours, overnight, or even days — depending on your strategy.
If you open and close a trade within the same day → it’s called day trading.
If you leave a position open overnight → it's considered a swing trade or longer-term position.
In cTrader, positions stay open until you manually close them or they are closed automatically (e.g. by Stop Loss, Take Profit, or Stop Out trigger).
