Before you start — check whether the Cyprus entity serves you
B2PRIME operates through several licensed entities, and the entity that onboards you depends on your country of residence. This article applies only if you are onboarded through our Cyprus entity, B2B Prime Services EU Ltd, regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
To confirm whether your country of residence is served by our Cyprus entity, see the eligible countries list under the CySEC entity in our Legal Information section: b2prime.com/legal#cy. If your country is not listed there, this article does not apply to you — please refer to the entity that serves your country.
Why reclassification may be needed
Under our Cyprus entity, we onboard clients as Professional Clients only — we do not onboard Retail Clients. If you are currently a Retail Client and your country of residence is served by the Cyprus entity, you may apply to be reclassified as an Elective Professional Client if you meet the criteria below.
An Elective Professional Client is a client who would normally be treated as Retail, but who chooses — and qualifies — to be treated as a Professional Client. Professional Clients receive fewer regulatory protections than Retail Clients (see "What you give up").
Eligibility — you must meet at least 2 of these 3 criteria
Trading activity — You have carried out transactions of significant size on the relevant market, at an average of at least 10 per quarter, over the previous four quarters.
Portfolio size — Your financial instrument portfolio (cash deposits plus financial instruments) exceeds EUR 500,000.
Professional experience — You work, or have worked, in the financial sector for at least one year in a professional position that requires knowledge of the relevant transactions or services.
Supporting documents — please provide at least two
Trading activity: brokerage account statements, trade confirmations, or annual/quarterly portfolio statements.
Portfolio size: bank statements, investment account statements, certificates of deposit, or fixed-income investment summaries.
Professional experience: an employment contract or offer letter, a reference letter from a current or former employer, or professional certifications or qualifications.
What you give up as a Professional Client
Reclassification means you no longer receive certain Retail protections, including:
Negative balance protection
Margin close-out protection
Retail leverage limits (Professional Clients can access higher leverage, which increases risk)
Eligibility for the Investor Compensation Fund
Standardised CFD (Contract for Difference) risk warnings and certain additional disclosures
How the process works
You submit a written request to be treated as a Professional Client.
We provide a written warning of the protections and compensation rights you may lose.
You confirm in writing, in a separate document, that you understand the consequences.
We assess your request and documents. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee reclassification — we are not obliged to approve every request.
